Frequently Asked Questions
Here is a list of questions that have been (obviously) frequently asked as well as some that we anticipated.
- I've never worked on a wiki before. How does it work?
Basically, you log in using the button at the top of the screen with the password found at DailyWheel's Movie Life and then enter the information you have by editing a page where that information belongs. Before you begin though, be sure to check out the Basic Rules of Conduct and Basic Formatting on the Etiquette page. The SandBox is also a great place to learn how wiki commands work before using them on an actual page.
- What qualifies as a movie?
Basically anything that is not a t.v. series and can be found on IMDb. If you can't seem to find the movie, post a comment in the Help Wanted section with the heading "Is this a movie?" (A key thing to look for on IMDb if you are not sure whether the event in question is from a movie or something else is to see if the main link to the video is in not in quotes. Movies are not put in quotes, while t.v. series are.) Also make sure the title does not have (VG) beside the name.
- This has been done before. Why are you repeating someone else's idea?
Yes, this idea has been posited multiple times in everything from books to other websites, but we wanted to do something much larger than any of these ever accomplished. Most of these other resources either include only a portion (usually a very small one) or attempt to include all movies possible, but update very slowly because only one person is working on the project. This wiki allows a much more flexible and easily updated way to get every single movie ever made into a single database. For more information on the differences visit Nope.
- Someone has gone through and wiped/rewritten/vandalized my event/details page/character page! What should I do?
Please contact us so that we can get the old version of the file up. Please remember though, other people doing research on the same movie may find a difference and if you never answer a post made in the discussion section on that page regarding your post or a post in the Contradictions page or Disputed Pages page and multiple others come forward showing that your original post was incorrect, then the event, detail page, etc may be changed to keep things as accurate as possible. If the change was malicious vandalism, we'll change it back. If you just ignored a conflict assuming that because you posted it first you've obviously got the right answer, even when others present a great deal of evidence against you, then we can't help you.
- I think insert event should not be on the Featured Events page because it is insignificant/stupid/offensive/etc.
Remove it. The main point of this page of the wiki is to list events that are deemed important to people at the moment. This means that the page will be changing and updating multiple times a day, just like it is supposed to. Don't go and delete this event from the Timeline, though. The Timeline should list events from every movie. If someone thought it was important enough to put in the Timeline, then it is not your job to remove it because you disagree. Removing an event or having your event removed from the Featured Events page is not an invitation to start a flame war or otherwise yell, scream, and complain about injustice or anything else. People disagree and that's what will make the Featured Events page so interesting. People's varied opinions on what is important.
- Hey I'm looking for a copy of insert movie here do you know any good sites I can download it from?
No. If you want to actually buy the movie, try searching online for a copy, otherwise forget it completely. We will not provide links to any illegal sites on this website, nor will we allow you to. If the movie is considered in the public domain, and thus freely available to anyone, post it on your own site or find it from someone else's. This site is geared towards providing information involving only specific key events from a movie to show what another civilization would see as our history. If you notice that someone has posted a link to an illegal copy of a movie, contact us immediately with the page you found the link on and who posted the link, if possible!
- So and so's post is completely wrong and should be destroyed and rewritten completely.
WOAH! Wait a second! Before you decide to just destroy someone else's post or completely rewrite it, take a second to see if the change is something simple and common sense (spelling error, obvious date mistake, etc.)or if it is more involved. Also check to make sure that the inaccuracy is not due to a conflict between movies. If the movies conflict, don't change it, just add your information where it is needed. If it's a simple change, go ahead and make it. Otherwise, make a post in the Disputed Pages section of the To-Do List page. Give the original author some time to reply, and possibly fix it themselves and be prepared to provide evidence of why the original post was inaccurate. If you just delete the original or change it, the original can and most likely will be put back up, so start a discussion. Things will get fixed as needed.
- I think this site is really cool and I want to put a button/banner on my site. Do you guys have any?
As a matter of fact, we do. You can visit the links page on DailyWheel.com/MovieLife to find a few different size buttons and banners that we created. If you'd like to make your own feel free, then be sure to send us a link to the image so that we can (at the very least) put up a link for others to use. Please be sure to link the image to http://lifeisamovie.pbwiki.com.
